 Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you write?
I write because I can’t imagine doing anything else. I’ve always written in some form or another. It started with poetry, then songs, then childrens fiction and now I am working on writing a young adult novel. I can't see myself having a regular job. I love what I do too much to want to succeed in anything else. I feel like I was born to be a writer. This is who I am.

Who are your favorite authors?
I'm a huge fan of young adult novels. I love anything to do with dystopian/apocalyptic sort of thing. I'm not too into vampires and werewolves, although I adore Stephanie Meyers Twilight saga. Believe it or not, I despise Harry Potter, (but obviously not because of J.K Rowling because she is amazing, I'm just not a fan of magical realms and things like that.) I'm also not a fan of Stephen King *GASP*  I actually don't have a list of favorite authors. I like picking up new reads from authors I don't recognize and falling in love with the text. If I love your story, great, but I don't say I have favorite authors because a lot of the time I might just like one book in a series or one book from an author who has written like 30. So, it's not right to say they are my fav. author, I just enjoy some of that authors work.

Do you ever get writer's block?
For a writer to say they never experience writer's block would be a lie. Sometimes the words just don't flow like they should and you get frustrated and irritated and just give up for the day. I try to write every day if I can but sometimes motivation and writer's block keeps me at bay. But like any writer, I struggle through.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I draw inspiration from just about any place. People, places and even objects can strike up an idea in my mind and I just run with it. I love to try to create points of view in my own writing style, even if it has been done before, it's never been done by me. I love to read poetry and other books in my writing genre that can strike up some intriguing plot and character ideas. Also, songs can be a good source of inspiration.

Do you write every day?
I try to write as much as I can. Every day is just not possible for me. Sometimes I just don't have time and sometimes I am just too tired to place my mind in that headspace. But when I do write, I give myself some goal trackers and write what comes to mind and then I can edit it later. I just have to get it down.

Out of your two passions (Book writing and lyric writing) which career path do you think you've had the most success in?

I have had more success in my lyric writing. Music has always been a huge part of my life and it is actually where my writing interests started. Songs I have written have been licensed for in-store radio, overhead radio for transportation (trains & airplanes) online radios, BBC radio, tv stations, compilation CDs, It's been played live by the wonderful band I am collaborating with and one of my tracks was considered for the super bowl. I have found that my love for music has been a huge part of my success but I am not ruling out any success that may come my way in the future. Book-wise or music wise, I am open and optimistic about all opportunities.
